Very interesting. Nice Cannon. I did not know there was actually a LIST and a RECORD of pranks between CalTech and MIT. I was even more amazed at the "scope" of moving the cannon. Now, I have some rocks in my backyard to get rid of. Know any pranksters out there?

Haha, to be fair, the pranks between our two schools have only recently been heated. There are of course a few famous CIT pranks such as the Rose Bowl.
And yes, moving the cannon was ridiculous. We ran up a $30,000 tab. We had to get about 25 people out to Boston all on last minute flights. We actually had a command/control center with about 10 cell phones and 5 laptops coordinating the whole thing, which I assisted with. The cost of moving the thing back here was around $9000. Fortunately, CIT is paying us back.
I dont know, are your rocks part of your history? lol

Well, the rocks are always part of some kind of history. Not my "personal" history though. I am adding a room addition of about 600 sq feet, and had LOTS of dirt and rocks to get rid of. Nearly done with that part though. Should start framing the walls in a few weeks, when I am fairly safe from snow storms. Expensive pranks. WOW. Glad I got my degree much earlier and from a "small" school. Does that cannon actually WORK? When was it last fired? I saw the picture with flames shooting out, but did not know it that was "special effects" or a test. By FIRING, I mean with an "actual" cannonball.

Cool, what's the extra space for?
It fires....but I don't know the last time it was loaded with an actual projectile. Ie, one can make a gunpowder charge and the cannon can make a loud noise, but I don't know about stuffing in an actual cannonball. I don't think anybody would be too pleased to be on the receiving end of that.

I think it would be interesting if someone actually test fired it with a cannonball, checking range and damage. The military may even like to help out by providing a firing range for it. Anyway, it is a "nice" little cannon. Wish I had one of those.
